Christmas in July doesn’t have to be a big production. We’re all about easy over here.
Some of the girls’ favorite memories are these small simple days, and one of them is Christmas in July.
Here’s what I do to make the day special. It’s nothing huge, just a day dedicated to Christmas. Christmas cookies, songs, books, decorating, shirts, all the Christmas things we can do.
The night before we go through our closets and pick our Christmas shirts. Sometimes I have to get into storage, but usually, a red shirt, a Christmas bow, and jewelry are good enough. I also prep out cookie dough the night before. The recipe I use requires it to be in the fridge for at least 3 hours prior to using but recommends 12. You can find the recipe here.

Here is a list of things we like to do for Christmas in July. Again, the point is to make it fun, not hectic. So, let’s go!
The girls wake up and get dressed in their Christmas outfits.
We turn on Christmas music and eat breakfast -with Christmas-colored bowls and utensils of course.
Then I let the girls decorate the tv stand with Christmas decorations.
This usually leads to a full-on dance party -sometimes they argue about who gets to put what decorations up, but we try and find a compromise.
Next, we cut our sugar cookies. The girls pick the cookie cutters we use, the more festive the better. And we put them in the oven to decorate when Elsie is taking a nap.
Sometimes if we are wanting to get out of the house we will go to hobby lobby and look at all the Christmas decor, they usually have some kind of decorations by this time of year.
Then we will come home, eat lunch and get Elsie down for a nap. At this point, the girls know that it’s time to watch a movie, and of course, we pick a Christmas one. Some of our favorites are The Polar Express, The Grinch, and Home Alone.
After the movie, we decorate the cookies and then do a Christmas craft.
Then it’s time for dinner, with more Christmas-colored plates, Christmas music, hot chocolate, and more dancing.
It seems like a lot, but when you’ve got a whole day dedicated to it, it’s really just fun. I’ll also list some of the things we like to do below.
Cut and decorate sugar cookies
Have a snowball fight
Cut out snowflakes
Pull out some Christmas decorations and let them decorate this time. -I let mine decorate the TV stand.
Christmas music
Hot chocolate
Christmas plates, bowls, cups
Christmas books
Christmas outfits
Christmas movies
Twinkle lights
Did I forget anything?! Do you do Christmas in July?! What are your favorite traditions?
If you’re looking for an easy craft, or something easy to keep your kids busy I’ve created this workbook/coloring book that they might love. It’s a free printable so feel free to share it!
