Let’s be real, how many blogs have you read that give you lists and lists of things that you “need” for your diaper bag? Every time I read them I think about how heavy my diaper bag is going to be with all that stuff in there.
So, here I am setting the record straight and showing you the things you really need in your diaper bag. With each phase of childhood, things can change, but for the most part, our diaper bag has stayed the same, plus or minus diapers.

What You Really Need in Your Diaper Bag
Diapers and Wipes and a Change of Clothes: If you’re in the not-yet-potty-trained phase then diapers and wipes are always a must. You never know when an accident is going to happen, or how many times it’s going to happen either. This goes the same as having an extra set of clothes.
Snacks: Babies and kids always seem to be hungry. For my girls, I like to have a few granola bars packed, some fruit leathers, and maybe a little treat for one of those emergency moments. When they were younger I would bring some baby food snacks in reusable baggies. Snacks also include water, I don’t put these in the diaper bag, but I do make sure the girls bring them.
Blanket, Burp Cloth: This is for the younger babies, sometimes things get messy, and there is spit-up. Then there are other times when it’s cold and your baby needs a blanket. I still bring a blanket in my diaper bag for the girls, just because.
Books or Toys: I’m always looking for something to keep the girls occupied at the store or whenever I need them to be quiet for a few minutes. I love bringing a few books or coloring activities, sometimes I even pack wiki sticks for them to play with.
Emergency Kit: I got my kit at Target, it has bandaids, wipes, and other things in case your little ones have an emergency. If your kids have allergies this would also be a good place to put any medicine you need for them.
What kinds of things do you keep in your diaper bag? What have you found to be essential for your kids? I’ve found that the more minimal the better. That keeps my diaper bag light and helps it all stay organized.
