This week’s craft is Colorful Coffee Filter Butterflies. These were really fun to do because there was no way to mess them up, perfect for a craft with a toddler!
Things You’ll Need
- 2 Coffee Filter/Tissue Paper
- Washable Markers
- Pipe Cleaners
Instructions
- Take 2 coffee filters or tissue paper circles and create a colorful design on each piece. I laid both pieces together and the markers bled through making it easier for me to “color” the second filter the same way.
- Once you have finished coloring, place your items on top of each other on a baking sheet. Take a small measuring cup and drip water onto your work. Watch as the colors bleed together. Continue adding water until your work is completely wet.
- Set your wet colored coffee filters out in the sun to dry (this took about 15 minutes in the Arizona sun.)
- When dry take your colored coffee filters, separate them, and make small accordion folds. Do this on both filters.
- Bring the two filters together side by side (as pictured).
- Find your pipe cleaner and twist it securely to the middle of the butterfly wings (as pictured).
- Now twist the butterfly antenna into circles at the tops.
- Fan the butterfly wings so they make their wing shape.
- You’re done!
