This week we talked about the 5 Senses. Smell, Touch, Taste, Hear and See. There are so many books and ideas to do with this weekly lesson. If you’re looking for some more in-depth books about teaching senses head to your local library, they are bound to have a good amount of books. My mom teaches preschool so I was able to just borrow the ones she has.
Day 1
Activity: Make the letter S with Play Foam.
Learning Activity Book: Learn to Write Your Letters
Song: The letter S by Patty Shukla.
Book to Read: Five Senses -I borrowed a book from my mom for this one, but this book also looks promising.
Craft: Make rainbow art. Have your child use dot markers to make a rainbow.
Active Play: Listen to different sounds. Play water running, a heart beating, birds chirping. Ask your toddler what they are hearing.
Day 2
Activity: Make the letter S with Playdoh.
Learning Activity Book: Letter S Activity Sheet.
Song: The letter S by Patty Shukla.
Book to Read: Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Goldilocks talks about how her chair is too hard, too soft, or just right.
Craft: Finger paint. Let your child feel what it’s like to finger paint. Have them paint their hand with a paint brush and put their hand on a piece of paper to see what their hand looks like.
Active Play: Get a box full of household items (that are safe) but have different textures. put a sheet over the box. Have your toddler reach their hand into the box to tell you what they feel.
Day 3
Activity: Make the letter S with yarn.
Learning Activity Book: Review how to write both upper case and lower case S.
Song: The letter S by Patty Shukla.
Book to Read: Senses books about touching, smelling, hearing, seeing, and tasting.
Craft: Color with scented markers.
Active Play: Give your child different foods to taste (you can even blindfold them if you’d like). Have them tell you what the foods taste like. If you want something a bit easier, you could also make cookies -a much more delicious idea.
