So this weekend Brand and I headed down to a small-small town in southern Arizona for my step-grandpa’s funeral.
We headed down Saturday morning at 5 and came back that afternoon.
I wish we could have stayed around longer to visit.
I learned so much about my step-grandpa on Saturday.
So much that it made me feel like I didn’t really know him.
Like I didn’t know who he was, it was like he was a stranger.
And then it got me thinking about how I wished I knew him better.
I mean he had been my step-grandpa for my whole life, so I did know him.
But, I wished I had more fond memories with him.
All day Saturday on the drive home I thought about how I could be better at learning more about our grandparents.
Brand’s and mine.
How could I spend more time learning about their lives and different things they went through to get them to where they were now.
It’s so important to keep in touch with our loved ones, especially when we live so far from them.
But, it’s also to keep in touch with the ones that live right around the corner.
I thought about how I need to spend my time more wisely searching through family history.
Getting together names to take to the temple.
This weekend really opened my heart and my mind.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to go down there.
To have these feelings brought to my attention.
I only wish it wasn’t so late in the game.
But, I know I can only progress.
I encourage you to get in touch with a relative that you haven’t spoken to in a while.
Talk to them about their life, tell them about yours.
You’ll be surprised what you can learn from a small conversation.
It will truly brighten your day.
Happy Monday Friends!
